Last week (13th), MCS Markup, a leading advisory and business management firm, hosted an exclusive gathering with clients and partners in Rio de Janeiro. The event, titled “Tax Reform: Preparing for a New Reality”, was designed to deepen understanding of the subject and transform the way companies approach this pivotal moment.
The first panel featured partners Cristiane Pacheco, Felipe Vieira and Verônica Teixeira, all from MCS Markup’s TAX practice, highlighting the key changes such as the unification of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) and the Tax on Services of Any Nature (ISS) to create the Tax on Goods and Services (IBS), the Contribution on Goods and Services (CBS) and the Selective Tax (IS), which will be gradually phased in from 2029 onwards, the improvement of the business environment in the country through the new Transfer Pricing rules, already in force and aligned with the standards and guidelines of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the reform of the Corporate Income Tax (IRPJ) and the Social Contribution on Net Income (CSLL), among other topics.
In the second segment, Carlos Carneiro (BPO Partner), André Simões (Innovation and Digital Transformation Partner, also representing the Risk Management and Internal Controls practice), Lígia Sodré (Transaction Services Partner with a focus on tax due diligence) and Aziz Beiruth (Corporate Finance Partner) presented different perspectives on the Tax Reform, highlighting the impact on internal control processes and the role of technology as an essential tool for optimizing companies’ day-to-day operations. The partners also addressed questions from attendees, fostering an enriching debate.
“The Tax Reform demands a high degree of complexity and will impact organizations in different ways. The transition period is challenging and its commencement in 2026 will require strategic action from companies”, stated Verônica Teixeira at the opening of the panel.
